Because of the way LJ does things - or the way I read it - I started off walking around Glasgow, along Hadrian's wall, up the M1 and ended looking through the window. However got it sorted now. Driving up to Mull 2 years ago we bypassed Glasgow and saw only highrise battery-cages on the horizon, lunch along Loch Lomond. So was surprised how civilised you made it look. Mes idées reçus, sans doute.
Sounds like an enjoyable holiday. Hope your toothache has been cured?
Eric
PS Off myself Friday, but hope to keep up a running commentary

Hi Eric, glad you got the order worked out in the end.. I have to say, I very much feared that this would be the case, as I didn't take my laptop with me, and because of the toothache, just sat down and typed for a few hours, with bursts of intermittent self-pity (and hence an occasional glass of wine) interrupting the flow of words from time to time.. but the toothache pretty much gone now, along with the crown and the root beneath, which was causing all the trouble. Enjoy your holiday- this will be the states, I expect....look forward to reading about it.
bon voyage...
Anne
and you are correct in that some bits of Glasgow are pretty grim- as with most cities- and cheek by jowl against lovely old building in some cases. The city centre - and many places beyond- is very, very impressive however. And the people I met were all very nice indeed and clearly (quite rightly) proud of their city.
