Фигурное катаниe and how it keeps me awake at night.

I dreamed about skating. I dreamed about being on the ice. Then I dreamed about a store that had second-hand clothes and skates - I tried on a pair of Riedells and I loved them, but they were not what I was looking for (they were almost as soft as the ones I have now) and they were size 39 (and from what I’ve heard about skates, I’d probably need smaller skates than my regular shoe-size). Then I tried on a pair of synchro skates and they were good, but too big, finally, I tried a pair of black men’s skates (also Riedell) and those were too big as well, of course.

The reason for this dream is that I’ve been fretting about a certain thing last night. About how much I suck at being an expatriate. I always talk about doing this and that in the foreign country. And then I never do.
Now my to-do/to-find list for Moscow includes:
• find & buy skates
• find a rink nearby
• find a skating class for adults
• find a fitness studio that offers aerobics classes so I don’t end up being completely out of shape after the 4 months in Russia

If this was in Germany, I’d simply find the website of the particular city and search for ice rinks, in the hope that they would also list the activities the rinks offer or have a link to the rink’s website. Or I’d search for fitness studios/gyms. In theory, I could do the same for Moscow. But I feel slightly confused when it comes to Moscow and Russia. The size and the language... it’s all a bit overwhelming. So I'm often find myself a little lost when I try to find something.

Though you know what. I just went online and searched and voila:
http://www.fscolympic.ru - if I'm understanding it correctly, they have classes for adults throughout the year and you can join anytime you want. The only problem? The lessons are in the evenings and if I have classes in the evening...

vse_na_katok - they have a very useful list in their profile, like rinks in Moscow, complete with addresses and prices etc. *__* Also a list of places where you can purchase skates.

And, apparently, they have lessons at the Kristall rink in Luzhniki. Except the website says that Kristall is now closed, so who knows if/where the classes are taking place now.

So there might still be hope for me. The problem is that you almost always have to call the rink for additional information, which I don't have the guts to do, so I probably would have to GO there to get more info - everything is always easier to explain in person than over the phone if you're not quite proficient in the language yet.

You're probably laughing at me now, because out of all the things I should be worrying about in relation to Russia, I worry about skating of all things. But you know, skating is the one thing I want to do for myself, the one thing that I'm passionate about, the one thing that makes me truly happy. So it would be wonderful if I could continue with it in Moscow. ♥
