they were originally one movie. the second part is just a matter of pacing. if you watch them in a row, it is a very nice, clean, circle - perhaps this is innaccurate, but it is winds-back-on-itself (for lack of a better term). just like tarantino likes doing, just as many kung fu movies do.
Do not mistake this as 'pointless', please. It is an act of teaching, in order to gift onto him some portion of wisdom, administered through the light smack of written humiliation.
You see, though this the subject recipient will become stronger, sharper, quantitatively better human beings, and in the off chance the administered treatment proves a bit much for the recipient, well, his will be an example to inspire/terrify others.
You see, once this slight defect is corrected we can move on to other, more pressing problems, such as aesthetically displeasing facial hair, improper inflection, or demonstrable genetic inferiority. All these obstacles can be overcome though slight corrections now and again, in order to modify the antisocial tendencies of the aggravator.
