I haven't read fic or J2 or anything in like a year. But I saw this from you and I couldn't resist. It's sweet and perfect and exactly what I wanted from today. Thanks, Nan, for closing out the year with something sweet so maybe it can start that way too.

What a wonderful, wonderful present.

I love this so much.

I never really thought you would pick this premise; I more or less put the prompt there on a whim and as a reminder to myself. So the fact alone that you chose this already made me insanely happy.

You capture this slightly wistful, melancholy atmosphere with the way you describe the waystation (I love the details like the flickering lights and the formica table), and I enjoyed the little glimpses of Jared's life, the hints of a world outside of the confines of the story, like the memory of hanging up the sign of his veterinary practice (and even the mention of Tommy cheating on him).

The ending actually surprised me a little, but in a good way - I like how it pretty much enforces the ideas of love at first sight and being made for each other without being too sappy.
