A most welcome posting about many important happenings, my dearie girl (now, there's a Mama for you to identify with ~~ you are grown up and I still mentally put you on my lap for 'talk-time'!!)

Thanks for the lucid explanation of your GREEN conversation. I find myself doing that sort of thing about once a week, though my prime victim, The Kiwi, just doesn't seem to 'get it' despite multitudinous introductions to conservationism! Some people just don't change much . . ....

It's good to know I still fit on your lap, Mamita ... I'm glad I never grew up too much for that. ;-)

It's hard when folks is sot in their ways ... And I don't envy you that frustration. You manage remarkably well, under serious provocation!

It was an interesting interaction. Not world-changing or anything, but both kind of fun and quite disturbing. Worth recording, anyway, I thought. And it got me thinking about why I make the choices I do, which is always good.

Love you!

The amusing part was when Estoile sent me a text about it, I was immediately able to name the company. Heee.

Yay for good birthdays :) (and I might see if I can meet up with you guys sometime next week... mmm... I should ask you what times you are where on Tuesdays :P)

Mmm... hadn't really occurred to me that different companies would pay for different power stations. No plans of changing but did poke info online, my one uses mostly hydro and geothermal and judging by the info pamphlet (which may just be propaganda) their pure thermal ones seem to be mostly gas run :P (Contact for reference)

Some companies own particular power plants, some buy power as it's available, I think. I believe several companies use power from Huntly, for instance.

Meridian (I don't mind saying it in comments, but it didn't seem right in the main entry) is, as far as I know, the only one that only produces/buys renewable energy. It's not the cheapest option -- and that's definitely a problem -- but I work on the theory that I'd rather have more wind farms built, rather than more coal plants! (Also, having awkward people like me saying outright that that's why we switched places more pressure on the other companies to focus on renewables.)

According to the power use calculator on my workplace's internal website, Meridian IS the cheapest option for us at Dunedin prices with our power usage pattern. I should re-check it now that the new player (the company that rang you) is in the game, but I gotta tellya, it's going to take something spectacular to make us move.

Not least because Contact (spit) were charging us for reading two meters when one was never used, and refused to stop reading the other. Meridian have said they'll only read one, but we'll have to ask them again in 12 months. Yay! AND they're 100% renewable, which Contact (spit) aren't.

Cheapest is good ;-) Even better is cheapest and greenest.

And I, too, spit on Contact (spit), in solidarity! Actually, Meridian are rolling out the smart meters -- I've got one -- so that may cease to be a problem soon anyway ...

(Note the handsome gentleman in the icon. Just for you.)
