It appears that our next president will be Barak Obama. Since Congress has had Democratic control for the past two years and will continue under that control, we will have virtual totalitarian control by left-wing government. From this distance, and with different news reporting, Obama doesn't look nearly as leftist as our government. I have (very occasionally, of course) been mistaken in the past, but right now, in the USA it appears as if the republicans are the scary control freaks, and the democrats are not quite as bad.

Of course, that is partly based on different reports suggesting that many of the negative stories "exposés" about Obama are fiction, with maybe a grain of truth to add verismilitude to anotherwise bald and unconvincing narrative. If that turns out not to be the case, it could be scary indeed ( ... )

I read some of the press in the UK via the net, and I see they are very pro-Obama. I started to write that it is difficult to draw parallels with British Labour/American Democrats, etc., but it's actually impossible. Different histories ( ... )

EEK, it is upon us. I don't know enough to know whether your assessment is true, but I guess we shall find out one way or another. It appears as if Obama will be president, so I hope you are too pessimistic, and I imagine you do as well. If not, we will all find out the hard way.

The bit about the domestic police force turns out to be a misunderstanding. Someone said it as a satiric remark to a friend, who misunderstood it as fact. Thank goodness. I, too, hope it turns out to be other than it now appears.
