Well, folks, I completed my first marathon more than five minutes faster than my goal - 4:54:25. And, I can mostly still walk :) It was so wonderful to have so many people there at the end to congratulate me: in no particular order, Dad, Mary Ellen, Eric, Jay, Erin and Amanda ( Read more... )

Good job, Esther.

Using my cell phone calculator, I figured out you ran 11.23 minute miles, which means you not only matched the pace I had for the Bix 7, but sustained it over the course of 26.2 miles. A pat on the back indeed.

I appreciated that you took time to remark on the edibles at the end of a race. I never got donut holes at the bix. They had beer on tap, but the line was insane.

Thanks, Greg! The donut holes were actually along the race itself, not at the end - random people were out handing us all kinds of stuff along the way, such as donut holes, pretzels, twizzlers, etc. At the end, we got bananas, bagels, cookies, and beer. I don't like beer so I skipped that :)

Also, keep in mind that the chicago marathon is flat - you had to battle extreme (well, extreme for the midwest) inclines, which is quite a feat, too. Basically, we're all just really awesome.
