I was having the kind of week, seriously, where computers are my nemesis; yet people are my friends, they are gorgeous, they are helpful, because they have filled the intertubes with information which is accessible through the googleweb. Well, a good 50% of my job is debugging/pointing to OPPs (Other People's Problems, a variation on Someone Else's Problem) and making them fix it. He will create a fix, check it in, I will run a build, and et voilà! The weekend is redeemed.

So...my phones failure to receive text messages doesn't seem as tragic now. Thanks for that. Not that I *understand* any of the above, mind. But I feel better all the same. I'll remember that when I'm on hold with my carrier trying to find out *why* I don't have texting. It may keep me from saying swears and stamping my foot.

the details escape me, but I get the general picture. And GO YOU for gently leading the person whose problem it is to realize it's their problem :D

While I'm sorry for the hassles you had, the eloquent writing it engendered gave value to the situation.

(And LOL at the Harold reference. Oh machine.)

As a non-nerd geek, this post *so* reminded me of dating both Alistair (In-House Tech Support - basically "The IT Crowd" as far as I was concerned) and Dave (Programmer) and asking, "So how was your day?"

15 minutes of incomprehensible techno-speak later... Me: [short pause] "Good day or bad day?"

Someone Else's Problem and Works For Me are, however, replies found in many many places other than tech and programming. :D So I can at least get a vague sense of your frustration.

TFI Friday, indeed. Hope you have a good weekend!

ETA: You and several other people on my f'list have been mentioning POI, so I recently watched Random Episode That Was Starting on 5* (TV channel). I think I might have enjoyed it had I understood *anything* that was going on. I need to find the 1st Season, methinks.

I highly recommend the show too! ^_^ You really need to start from the beginning though, to keep track of the bigger plot :)
