With the death of Prop 8, DOMA, and DADT, and today's news that the Pentagon will extend all rights to same sex couples in the military, including travel time to states where they can legally marry, we can see the end in sight. But I'm afraid it'll be years before my state makes a move in the right direction. (We have domestic partnerships and they're talking about rescinding them.)

I'm very glad to hear this. There are people in this country who seriously need to get their heads out of their asses and their belief systems out of other people's lives.

I live in a state that is bizarre in its division. The northern tier was settled by New Englanders, and is now mostly liberal. The middle tier is dominated by the state capitol, and is more conservative, the lower tier is virtually in the Bible Belt, staunchly conservative. Our only hope in passing an equality of marriage act lies in the ability of the more populous norther tier to out-vote the rest of the state -- which we've historically been able to do.

Now, we have to get the issue on the ballot and out of the hands of our state politicians. It will be a long haul. ((sigh))

fascinating, rubygirl. I wonder how much it costs to get an issue on the ballot. :D can you say "kickstart"?

It's great news. :D

I was talking to one of our sociology profs who said I shouldn't be so stunned that marriage equality was taking so long as the US was founded on the principle of "secular religion"... I really can't see the secular part.

it's getting less secular day by day... ;p I blame Ronald Reagan, frankly.

Good lord. This raises the specter that at some point Maggie Gallagher will have to get a real job.
