meta: Amazon.com in TOTAL FAIL

Apr 12, 2009 16:05

Read here for how Amazon is essentially censoring GLBTQ works by stripping them of their sales rankings.

You can help protest by a) boycotting those mofos, b) signing the petition, or c) joining the googlebomb campaign.

Me, I've just written them a mean, mean letter. They won't be getting my cash dollars until they fix this.

Thanks. I'm so fucking hugely disappointed in them. I even suspect aliens have sucked their brains.

Usually that's a fun thing.

Yeah, me too. I just told them to close down my account. I haven't spent thousands of dollars, but I've spent enough. I hope they post a really public, really sincere apology.

*applauds*

I just fired off an email and joined the Googlebomb via my website, but I may write a snail letter as well. I'm (foolishly?) hoping they will fix this before a snail letter gets there.

I was just thinking about my letter probably arriving too late for the party, and hoping for it, actually. :) Optimism good!

Very well put. I like how you point out that you're not protesting in support of anyone's interests but your own--because that puts a personalized, 'this affects me, here's how it affects you' spin on it that 'in support of' letters lack. Not that I'm knocking them, mind, but I suspect those letters are of less impact singly than collectively, and this counts as that support while still hitting them where it counts.

Hey, darsynia. How've you been?

Yeah, I thought it was important to state frankly that I am a consumer of the very products they are hiding from me. Because, small-minded bigotry aside, it's the stupidest business practice I've ever heard of, and hearing that's gotta hurt more than my opinion of their medieval 'content policing.'

And really, they're gonna miss my dollars. In fact, I was just about to go buy some new SGA action figures. :) I'm missing Teyla and Field Ops Rodney.

There's a very interested part of me that wonders, if this is about age-appropriate material somehow, if maybe some homophobe in their policies department was supposed to decide what constitutes 'age appropriate,' and decided to put a big flaming X next to "anything gay, omg."

Who is that person, I wonder, and will they have a job tomorrow?

I have never shopped at Amazon and I never will. They have have helped destroy the independent book stores that in the past provided communities with a diversity of books. They are on record as wanting to destroy the book industry as we know it and replace it with a one source digital book distribution with themselves as the gatekeepers, taking their financial cut of every book downloaded.

They want to be a monopoly. They are training every customer into their vision by seducing them with artificially low book prices which have a hidden cost. You have seen that cost in action. Thanks for sending your letter. Support local bookstores if you can.
