Oh that's good..if it helps any though one of the reasons I wrote my series to start with is (nearly) everyone at the time was framing Bubbles as a push over, the PPG as easy to rape, and Hibbles only working if it was full on mindrape -.-
Edit: So I tried to change that :) ALso, romance where they don't age gives me the rebeegeebees o.o
So, does a nightmare that almost ends in rape count? >__> Because it's supposed to be a horrible thing, not something glamorized of fetished (is that even a word?)
Fetishized would be correct, I think :) As far as the situation you mentioned goes, for me it would depend on how it was handled. I have less problems with a nightmare about rape being treated like a nightmare. I have serious problems about it being romanticized.
Truth be told, I'm not crazy about rape-used-as-a-plot-device in general, so I even tend to shy away from stories that may address it appropriately.
Eh, it's not even a plot point in Haunted. It just shows up in a bad dream. I deliberately put in things that bother me to help add to the horror/torment/yada yada.
But yes. Romaniticization of rape. Fuck that noise.
I note that they have been dealing with issues such as this in the recent run of Sinfest comics. This is a bit out of the blue and only semi-related to the topic at hand, but I personally think the last few dozen comics have managed to cover much with regard to this and other such twisted/misogynistic unpleasantness. Seriously check them out.
Pardon having a random stranger's comment, and feel free to completely ignore me. Your comment on Sinfest just got my attention and I'm a little "iffy" on the comic's take on feminism. Mostly because it reads to me that being a woman and showing any hint of femininity (such as having long hair and wearing dresses or having the appearance of being feminine) means I'm going along with the Patriarchy and further supporting the oppression. I might be reading it wrong, but the first few strips involving 'Nique's image-change and the early strips featuring the Revolutionists make me feel attacked. That if I like wearing dresses, if I like make-up and nail polish, and if I like having a feminine appearance means I am ruining things for the cause. That women who choose to be housewives, to have families instead of careers, who had the opportunity to choose different are "doing it wrong" as far as feminism is concerned. I dunno, again, I am probably just reading things wrong. I just find Shortpacked has done a better job than Sinfest in that
Hope you're not pissed at me because I didn't recommend you to read He Who Sups With the Devil, which I was trying to make everything Him does as wrong because he's the devil. He's the Anti-Christ.
If you haven't yet, then don't read it then. It is sick. It's so sick that even the Grim Reaper from Billy and Mandy comes out and says it's sick.
I don't try to make Him a good guy in mine, just that he has some limits because his idea of 'fun' isn't anything easy and he has some respect for the girls that he has to play tug of war with his demon nature over...I guess I frame Townsville as a happy go lucky place hiding a darkness that the PPG are use to dealing with...
I think that Him respects power. He respects the Girls' powers and wants to use them as his toys for his own needs. At least in mines he does.
I came up with my version of Him as a combination of the Bleedman's comics portrayal, Hades from Greek mythology, and my own ideas and knowledge of Satan. When I wrote He Who Sups With the Devil, I had to think about everything that I'm against and put it into Him's character. He's known for being everything evil without sympathy or guilt.
The way I wrote Grim from the Adventures of Billy and Mandy was also a combination of the Bleedman's comic Grim Tales: From Down Below, and what the personification of Death is. He's not good. He's not bad. He's neutral. He will never be a full hero because he sees no problem with death, it's apart of life. But he can't be a full villain because he cares somewhat for people. In the Bleedman comic he has a kids and he married Mandy... Yeah, I know it's awkward.
Mines somewhat the same, but I don't read Bleedman at all. I guess I just used my own mix of ideas ;) My Hibbles uses a mix of Biblical and Greek myth, and then just thinking about how the world behind Townsville might work, given how Him is in relation. He has boatloads of daughters ... http://www.fanfiction.net/~alicorntapestry
