The idea that children who read Harry Potter books will eventually be turned to the dark, dark world of witchcraft is utterly absurd. The Christian Coalition and the other extreme right-wingers are, again, out of their minds. Their stance that the books have this supernatural power to lure children into adapting into a life of the occult is based ( Read more... )

I whole heartedly agree. If you read some of the entries on the 'wall of shame' at www.mugglenet.com you'll see some of the rediculous christian kids that write in saying "Why are you telling people that jesus is bad? Why wont you let them believe?"

I suppose READING the books is out of the question

Is Jesus even mentioned in the books? I didn't realize that the series was specifically created to lure innocent children away from God only to suck them into the dark side. Hmph ( ... )

Shit. I replied to this awhile ago and I just realized that it didn't post. But basically, Bush is a terrorist and we're all going to hell. I believe that was the gist of my rant.

Those are some pretty powerful books if they lure people to the "dark side".

I want that power.

On a more serious note, The Davinci Code also garnered a lot of publicity because it created so much controversy with Christians. It was a very good book though.

I wonder if the Christian Coalition realizes that by trying to create all this bad publicity and controversy, they're just getting more people to read the books and see the movies and expand their minds. Possibly leading them away from Christianity, which is the complete opposite of what Christians want?

Silly Christians, when will they realize that all publicity is good publicity (in the end)?

I don't even think so much that it lures people to something else as it is more of generally undiscovered territory that opens up people's minds to different things. And who ever said that was a bad thing? You need a lot of options in order to make a choice, it's not done by suppression or solitude.
