"City Lord! City Lord!" Turning, Lan could see a pair of players jogging up to her, waving. One was a woman with long, wavy blonde hair, wearing a high-collared white robe that was trimmed with gold. The guy had short curly black hair and was a matching opposite to his companion. Broad shouldered, he also wore a robe, but his was gold with a white trim. Lan didn't recognise them - at least, she didn't think she recognised them.
"Yes?" she asked when they stopped before her. What did they want? She was hungry and the lunch inn was just around the corner!
The two bowed and then glanced at each other. It was the guy who eventually spoke up. "I'm ForTheWin," he said, placing a hand on his chest, and then waved a hand towards the woman, "and this is my lovely wife Elohel." Elohel lilted a small smile at her.
Lan hid a sigh of relief. At least they weren't going to confess to her. A thought then occurred to her and she looked at them doubtfully. Unless...
"We were wondering if City Lord could possibly sing for us?" ForTheWin asked hesitantly. Both ForTheWin and Elohel then put hopeful looks on their faces, edging forward.
'Well, that doesn't sound too bad,' Lan thought. It should only take a few minutes.
"Is there anything in particular you want me to sing?" She just hoped that it'd be a song she knew.
"It's My Life!" came the instant, joyous reply. The two had grins stretching their faces as wide as possible, and they hugged each other, laughing.
Lan grinned at their choice, before taking a deep breath, preparing herself to begin singing. She mentally sang along the opening riff, counting herself in. "This ain't a song for the broken-hearted..."
After she'd finished singing, Lan opened her eyes to see the pair had adoration written on their faces, stars in their eyes. 'Whew, now that's over with' -Lan turned around to go to the lunch inn- 'Uh...' While she'd been singing, Lan hadn't realised that a crowd had formed around her and there were no clear exits.
"City Lord, could you sing Swallowtail Butterfly next?"
"Yeah! Yeah!"
"Not that one! Can you sing - "
"How about - "
"Please City Lord, I'd really like - "
The clamour that was coming from the mass of people was getting insane. Each new request was louder than the last as the person tried to be heard over everyone else.
Waaa, what was she going to do? Already, she couldn't hear individual voices anymore; they were all meshing together, roaring like an angry swarm.
And then something rippled through the crowd. Some of the voices dropped off, but they were replaced quickly. A second ripple happened soon after, more voices trailing off and some of the players looked at each other in confusion.
At that point, Lan noticed some movement in the crowd, but it wasn't players pushing forward like she'd feared. Some players glanced behind themselves before paling and diving out of the way.
Lan felt like doing the same when she saw who was standing there. "Eheheh... Um, hi Yulian," she said nervously, a hand behind her head.
Yulian's shadow smile widened a notch, and then suddenly it was only the two of them in the street. "Prince," Yulian greeted, stepping forward, smile firmly in place. "I hope that wasn't you singing for free."
"Well - I was - Uh..."
"Maybe I should think of additional ways for you to make money," she mused.
Lan sweated as she followed Yulian to the concert hall. 'Note to self: do not sing unless it's for the concert!' And she hadn't been able to get a bite to eat either...
