Ouch ouch ouch. Painful, but brilliantly so. This is all so desperately plausible. I love Archie here, there is something very dignified in his acceptance of the way things are with Horatio even though it is so terribly sad.
I love the exchange between Archie and Pellew too, it's a very clever touch of humour that makes the transition to Archie's memories of Ferrol all the more shocking.
You are very mean not to let them fall into each other's arms at the end though. I may have to blackmail you into writing a sequel (with a happy ending and hot sex, otherwise I'll post that picture of you-know-who ;)
