The prompt for this story was “‘The more I see of men, the more I admire dogs’,” submitted by tatdatcm. This story fits into “The order of the Llama, or, The Performer and Her Pianist,” a crossover chapter between Already in Progress and Ruth’s (un)Officially Wacky Boolprop Challenge.

Rating: G

Dramatis Personae
Cecil Shankel, recently broken up with the second girlfriend to cheat on him.
Blake Louie, a llama mascot who thinks Cecil is cute.

Setting
The common room of the dorm.

CECIL: (sigh) The more I see of women, the more I admire cats.
BLAKE: Don’t you have that a little off?
CECIL: Huh?
BLAKE: I think the quote is “The more I see of men, the more I admire dogs.”
CECIL: But I don’t admire dogs. They’re needy. You leave the house, and they sit down and they look at the door and they just wait. Cats, on the other hand, cats are like “Oh, were you gone? I didn’t notice.”
BLAKE: Loyalty bothers you?
CECIL: Dogs aren’t loyal - they’re co-dependent. And I’ve had more than enough of that with my girlfriends. “Oh, you’re dating other guys? Oh, okay. I’ll just wait here for you to come back to me.” “You’re sleeping around? No worries! I’ll be right here - waiting.” Dogs are stupid. Cats don’t give a censor blur. They’re all “You’re not interested in me? Your loss. I’m outta here.”
BLAKE: Well, I can see where you’re coming from. (pause) You know, I might have the solution to your girlfriend problem.
CECIL: Really?
BLAKE: Yeah. Let me buy you dinner and we can talk about it.

Notes
The date was a complete disaster from start to finish, and Cecil now lives alone with five cats in a Crazy Cat Lover challenge.

All dog lovers out there: Please note that Cecil’s views are not those of the author. I like dogs fine, even if I am a bit more of a cat person.

cats, myshuno! the sequel, cecil
