Tutorial: Blank Templates, or, No More Premade Townies

Oct 03, 2014 10:49

Joandsarah77 asked me for clarification and details of the method I originally described in this thread for making sure that custom 'hoods don't all have the same townies. It's really, really simple, but I thought a little tutorial might be helpful because it seems that most people don't do things the way I do.
Lots of words and a very simple technique )

It's always good to have tutorials, thanks! :) I'll have to keep this method in mind in case of new hoods some day, and rebuilding too.

You're welcome! It really is a super easy method and a good one to have on hand just in case. Also safe and reversible! :)

Esme I just directed someone from MTS to your tutorial and mentioned how Pleasntview was different to the rest and quoted your pm where you said to rename it.

I've updated the tutorial both here and on DD, so hopefully they'll check back and see the good stuff. :)

I was trying to follow your instructions to have blank templates; you seemed to be saying this would STOP the generation of townies by removing the "hood/subhood in question". You gave an example as {C-drive//]Open for Business [etc]neighborhood template/B001/B001 Neighborhood file- and to remove that last one. Not having something named exactly that, I removed "B001 Neighborhood.package ( ... )

It will stop the generation of any townies associated with the hood/subhood in question. So (for example) D001 has downtownies associated with it. No D001, none of the townies associated with it. But if you remove D001 but leave in N001, you will still get Goopy Gilscarbo. Does that make sense ( ... )

We appear to be cross-posting, so here is an answer to your edits.

For your custom shopping hood, I don't have any experience with those. I would assume that if the hood you downloaded has townies in it (like Bluewater Village has Malcom Landgraab and Florence Delarosa), then they would be added along with the subhood.

I don't add shopping districts very often, but I THINK that I can still add them if I'm willing to make my own from scratch, just like I can add a custom Uni or a custom downtown, both of which I do often. I will have to fire up my game an confirm this, though. Let me get back to you a bit later today? (It's still 3 pm on Sunday 6/14 where I am, so please adjust the timeframe slightly if it's near midnight where you are.)

I fired up my game and checked for you, and without B001 I can indeed add a new custom shopping district as long as I'm willing to start from scratch. I just can't add Bluewater Village. I hope that helps?

Is this correct?: D001 (nightlife) generates townies (among other things), but B001 doesn't? And those townies are UNIVERSAL (they can appear in Downtown and in the main hood it's attached to ( ... )

Yes, that is correct, or mostly so. D001 does generate downtownies, who are supposed to populated downtown lots when your sim visits. I THINK that they show up in my main hood as well, but I have a couple of hacks allowing walkbys from subhoods that do not normally come to a main hood (like dormies), so that might be behavior resulting from the hack. Regardless, if they are not created, they can't show up anywhere ( ... )

Upon checking, I saw that my list identifying the templates was not as detailed as I remembered, so I added some more information. I hope it helps!
