A journal not about art? Oh my! First paragraph is a short background on why I'm writing about this and what sort of insight I have in the subject. This is mostly to express my own personal frustrations ( Read more... )

I agree that a good mix of traditional mix and natural remedies can be beneficial, but most people don't seem to realize that even natural medicine needs knowledge not to be harmful in the end.

I especially despise anything that calls itself "Homeopathy" as by the wikipedia definition. Seriosly? Medicine that's so heavily diluted you can't statistically assume that there is even a SINGLE molecule of the original ingredients present in the solution you have? How can ANYONE seriously assume that is a good thing?

Good research and exploration is never a bad idea, though, and I wouldn't do it any other way. Don't let doctors brush over your concerns, YOU (as in the patient) have your stakes in this, not him. He's insured for malpractice (if he's a real doctor, that is) , but you're not insured for death.

Just read that! All they have for resource cost is sugar and a couple of duck offals. Can you see the dollar signs rolling?

I will mostly hold back my cynical thoughts on "medical science" from a biologist's perspective for now...

I think you are absolutely right.

It has taken me over 3 years of going through doctors to find a "doctor" (actually he's a nurse practitioner) that I am actually comfortable with and who I think takes my claims seriously and listens (for the most part).

I seriously had one doctor tell me I shouldn't be depressed because "god loves me" when I was tryign to get my antidepressants renewed :|

I think that "god loves you" thing is an american thing, from someone else I heard they went to their OB-GYN to get a prescription for birth control and they were told that she won't prescribe it cause "It's against my beliefs."

Seriously? If you can't keep your religion out of your scientific job, then don't get into one.
I never heard of ANYTHING like that in Germany.

Oh yes, it's a problem here. Several years ago when my hormonal levels started to get so bad the doctor first gave me birth control to bring my periods to a tolerable level I actually had a pharmacist refuse to fill the prescription even though my then husband was already fixed and it was explained it was so I could function during my period.

That pharmacy lost a regular customer after that, and not just one, but the whole family.

First and foremost, go to a doctor that actually listens to you and is qualified in doing what they do (whichever side you try)! I've had bad medical docs here in the US and in Norway. I've had good docs in both. The good bunch are hard to find it seems ( ... )
