on bisexuals who're "political lesbians"

There’s a post on my dashboard at Tumblr about how lesbian identity/lesbianism is being politicised to be about rejecting men instead to be about loving women, and it made me realise what makes me so uncomfortable about bisexuals who’re “political lesbians”.

it's hard for me to formulate a response to this bc i am, at 'best,' a straight girl who occasionally makes out with other girls when she's drunk/bored. but this was definitely interesting to read.

It really gets to me when a woman says something like "If any more men crap on me, I'm turning lesbian." It's so wrong on a number of levels. I say this as a mostly-straight woman who would really like to see genuine liking of women as a valid thing in society, and removal of the man-centred perspective of people's motivations, regardless of their gender.

"I like women" is totally valid. Why does society have to make it "Because I hate men"? Not only is that a logical fallacy that is in many cases completely untrue, it once again makes women a second choice, that has to be justified. Which is just wrong. Grr.
