NWS subject: menstruation blood

So, guys, THIS [NWS, picture of menstruation blood] popped up on my Tumblr, and I - well, I'm linking to my reblogging of this picture where I made a short commentary:
I’m not going to deny it: seeing menstruation blood like this kind of… freaked me out. But here’s the thing: I’m usually not freaked out by my own menstruation. Sure, I think being on my period is fucking ANNOYING and sometimes very, VERY painful, etc, but never - disgusting, and it never freaked me out. So why does seeing it like this make me feel unease? ‘Cause it is - without exception - the only “natural function” of the body I’ve never actually seen either in photo or in RL. I’ve never seen someone else’s menstruation blood.

Menstruation happens, people. I don’t get why it’s a-okay for people with penises to pee all over the fucking place, but seeing a photo of menstruation blood make people react like the above. Jesus fucking Christ, grow the fuck up.

Eh. Just talking about makes me feel uneasy - and aren't that weird? I've been thinking about whenever I whine about my periods - and it's not rare -, and I can't remember ever having actually talking about the blood, only the pain.
Isn't it - weird how we talking about or looking at menstruation blood result in such a reaction? Still result in such a reaction? I mean, historically menstruation was associated with the unclean and very often death - and I get why -, but while other subjects that have been considered to be unclean - such as sex - have been discussed and is being revalued, menstruation is still being considered disgusting and shameful and...

I mean, the amount of shaming involved in the comments to this picture, guys... Around half of the population goes through this every fucking month. It's not abnormal or anything like that; it's a part of our monthly life. We shouldn't consider it to be gross or disgusting or shameful.

And it's such a rarely discussed subject. Is this one of the examples where the shaming of this subject have been so effective, that it has been silenced?

Idk, guys. My thoughts about this isn't so - well, thought out; this is just a bunch questions, really. Anyone who got any thoughts?

my stuff: thoughts, subject: biological gender, subject: shaming
