OMG POPHAM BEACH ! ! ! !! :-D We used to make a trip there every year with my summer camp! Such amazing memories - even if I was only one of a handful who could stand getting into the water. It's why the bathwater temps of the gulf of mexico feels so very wrong to me. Salty water is supposed to be COLD!
I did not go in the water, mostly because I didn't want wet sand stuck to the blister I found halfway through the walk, and because of the many, many "Dangerous Riptides" signs.
My favorite beach is one next to Popham called Morse Mountain. It's run by one of the local colleges as a bird sanctuary. You walk about a mile and a half in - this results in a very quiet, serene beach. Sadly, this year women have been accosted by some guy who flashes them and then tries to make their acquaintance. The police are advising people not to walk in alone. So I went to Popham.
