Really, Massachusetts? Are we really doing this?

Local chain Friendly's offers a new burger that nearly triples KFC’s Double Down calorie count.

tl;dr - It's a burger, between two grilled cheese sandwiches, instead of normal buns made from bread - which is mostly air.

local, fail, sick sad world, food

Been There, Done That. Friendly's is just copying what's already been done better in local joints for a while.

The one linked above uses Great Harvest Bread Company bread, and has a 2/3 pound burger in the middle.

And Bacon!

(I only had the one, and haven't even considered another since)

Not that this isn't terrifying, but the Double Down really isn't all that caloric by fast-food standards - KFC's estimates have it at 540(k)cal, and while that still seems low to me, given that the DD isn't really all that huge it isn't implausible either. 1500 is a lot, but a ton (err...) of diner items come pretty close; check out Red Robin's horror show sometime...
