I love that series, I do. But here's the deal. The Palladinos jumped ship. Literally. They entered contract negotiations to make more money (they're the head writers/creaters of the show) and didn't get what they want. So literally, the sabotaged their entire season 6, basically started with the finale episode of season 5. You won't recognize certain characters. You'll be screaming at the TV. There will be moments when you will cry of frustration.
It gets bad.
They leave at the end of six and a new person takes over. The first few episodes of 7 are rocky at best. But after around 5-6 episodes, the show starts to regain its original spark and charm and gets some steam going. Unfortunately the damage is already done and the season is the last and leaves the viewers with so many frustrations and questions.
It's worth watching, if you're invested in the series and the characters, but it's so mind boggling and frustrating too.

I always advise people to skip 6-7 whenever they start watching the show. Although this one girl on my flist liked both seasons just as much as the others? But she admitted to hating every single character on the show and only watched for potential mother-daughter incest. So.
