I think the PC Police are a plague on the land, because heaven forbid we should teach historical context along with literature (or history itself, for that matter). I can't even get started or I'll never shut up.
Me too. I wrote a long paper on this very issue once, so I could go on a long time. IDK. Some people seem to think because of Tom Sawyer that Mark Twain is a children's author. But he was a satirist and "Huck Finn" is very clearly making fun of absolutely everyone except Jim. If you want to teach kids how to read critically and understand the meaning behind words, then you shouldn't do stuff like this.
