Dad had another diabetic fit in his sleep again last night at 3am. Took the paramedics an hour to bring him out of it but he is ok now. Got home and then woken up at 7 by Midnight and I haven't got any sleep since. No gaming tonight, just a very early night I hope.

folks, midnight the cat

Fingers crossed.

They think this one was caused by his new insulin mixture. The one he has been on for years has ceased production. It will take his body time to adjust to the new mixture.

Low blood sugar attacks?

Yes. They are better than they were a couple years ago. The doctors recently changed him over to a new brand of insulin (his usual mix has ceased production) and they think it may happen until he adjusts.

This diabetic fit you speak of... I am *very* curious because my blood sugars drop so low sometimes I cannot even talk and once even had a seizure. I eat healthy, don't over-dose on sugar to spike and plunge and then all of a sudden BOOM! The lowest mine had ever gotten was 28 - I was driving down the freeway and I told Dan, "My body is shutting down, I need to pull over." He didn't believe me, but I pulled over and *I* had to call 911 and they made me eat this horrible stuff and stay in the ER until my sugars were back to normal. Heck, just the other day they dropped to 38. I can usually tell now though, I haven't been to a doc. for it because they say I just have "severe hypoglycemic attacks" - so I carry glucose tabs, lifesavers candy, and beside my bed I have a small cup with some sugar and another with water in case I wake up sweaty and confused. All this was caused by that stupid gastric bypass surgery I had. What happens to your dad when he has the reactions to the low sugars??

If he has one while awake he tends to just sit there shaking and mumbling, or he'll pass out if nothing is done. He can come out of it naturally but it's not wise to let it run like that.

When he is asleep he doesn't wake up but he mumbles and talks. He also gets incredibly strong. On a couple occasions he has thrown mum across the bed and it has taken the two of us and the paramedics to hold him down so they can either give him an injection or force the sugar/glucose solution into his mouth.

Dad has had diabetes since childhood so he is worse than most should be. He tends to have these episodes (more in his sleep now than awake) when the doctors try a different dosage or they change his mixture, as in this time.
