Frustrations
Intuitively, "grin" seems to be less than "smile". But "grin" by itself implies that one smiled enough to show teeth, whereas "smile" does not imply that at all.
And I can't think of a word that says "sort of perked up at the corners of the lips in a grim but altogether friendly fashion". -

Thesis
In general, people go to movies because they want to be entertained. They don't go because they want to think or have their lives changed. They go religious events, camps, and seminars for that.
