I do not grasp how the French are able to tolerate such a gigantic security threat with such equanimity. Does it not occur to them that if they cannot perform even the most routine police functions in those neighborhoods, that literally anything could be going on in there, up to and including the construction of weapons of mass destruction intended for use against France?

Complacency

It is dangerous to underestimate how much complacency personal comfort can generate.

To be fair, much of the French security apparatus were concerned about Islamist terrorism years earlier than the FBI or CIA. Nevertheless, there is a long French tradition of leaving the underclass to rot.

Liberté, égalité, fraternité - only applies if you a not white, western or wealthy. To impose the same rules on the ethnic minorities that are applied to the white French population is racist - according to the "morally superior" collectivists. It is all going to end very badly and then you will probably have a back lash that will make the racial theories of the Nazi's look positively humane.

Those articles would be a trifle more impressive if they weren't argued from the position that fascism is a failure to be Wise and Enlightened and therefore Left-Wing.
