Criminality among young male Muslims

Jul 07, 2010 07:55

Danish psychologist Nicolai Sennels has been creating a stir with his cotentions, based on his work in Danish prisons, on criminality, Muslim culture and problems of integration. He holds that general integration of Muslims into Western societies is not possible (which it is certainly not if your ideal is the degree of cultural homogeneity that ( Read more... )

I can't believe that at one point I was *thisclose* to moving to Copenhagen. Now I understand that anyone who even looks a bit Jewish is not safe anywhere in the larger cities.

It's such a beautiful country, much like the Netherlands. I hate to see it ruined.

Europe is becoming less safe for Jews (and gays, for that matter).

Denmark is more upfront about dealing with the problems within Muslim communities. Ironically, a significant factor is that the Danish Christian Democrats early on made a concerted effort to appeal to Muslim voters, so the political elite was less isolated from trends in Muslim communities.

The banning of immigration-by-marriage unless both partners is 25 or over is a case in point.

I think Canada did something similar, forbidding the wife to be able to immigrate until she is 'of legal age' to be married. The problem is, this doesn't actually stop child marriage, and further traps the wife (I think so, at any rate) to a marriage to an older man. On the other hand, being able to immigrate to the West might offer a chance of escape.

In a very concrete way this cultural tendency, shows itself in therapy, as a lack of remorse. The standard answer from violent Muslims was always: "…It is his own fault that I beat him up. He provoked me." Such excuses show that people experience their own reactions as caused by external factors and not by their own emotions, motivation and free will. …

In which case they should be taken at their word. Surely they allow for the commitment of those who can not control themselves and constitute a danger to themselves or others?

That would change the incentives: though more in what they would say rather than how they would be likely to think.

It's hard to lie to yourself when you have to tell the truth to others.

Though the problem is not limited to Muslim crooks. Theodore Dalrymple found that all his criminal patients would say things like "the knife went in."

I now wonder too at the lack of integration of muslim females. I work in the same building with several be-scarved women, none of whom will meet my eye or exchange any sort of greeting or acknowledgement. I find this lack offensive. I don't actually work with them, but I see them often. An aussie, european or non-muslim asian would at least nod or Something. Perhaps they see me as some sort of wanton 'cause I don't cover my hair and in summer, my arms.

There is a real issue in this. I find Muslim girls much less of an issue to teach than Muslim boys, but I also have little experience of the more restrictive Muslim schools.

More generally, the Muslim claim is not like the Jewish claim of "we do this because we are the Chosen people and it is an extra obligation on this". The claim is "we do this because it is what God wants everyone to do, and so you should be doing it too". Sets up a different dynamic which makes infidel freedom doubly disturbing.
