Friday night went to mrsbrown and mr_bassman’s place for an impromptu bbq and good-bye for their dog Binka. montjoye, doushkasmum and sacred_chao were already there. Z and T turned up later

I am jealous you have met Harper!

And I have no personal knowledge of benc whatsoever, and no idea who he is in real life, but have you considered that his request may be related to him investigating whether he has a case for legal action? Have you considered flocking or making private the LJ posts with his tag? I don't know what you've written in your manuscript, but have you thought about whether it might be sufficiently identifying for others if they read your manuscript in juxtaposition with publically-accessible blog posts?

Better safe than sorry, I would think.

You almost certainly have this aspect well in hand, but please add my concern re legal action to that of sjasabi. If what you have written is potent enough to give this "benc" pause, he may try to block publication or otherwise seek to do you damage.

Thanks for the thought: I had already shifted many of the more direct posts to friends-only or private. Have checked through again, and shifted another to friends-only.

Actually, providing him a copy of the memoir before submitting it for publication, and giving him an explicit opportunity to challenge any factual details, is a form of legal protection in itself.

The memoir itself is pretty carefully worded to be factual, concentrate on the effects on me and not to impute personal characteristics or motives to him (or anyone else).
