The funeral went about as expected. My uncle went on way too long and did wind up with a "you need to come to Jesus or you will never see Grandma and Grandpa again" statement. I just looked at him and smiled, then sang the closing hymn, "Blessed Assurance" by heart, out loud where most of the church could hear it was me singing. I know they could ( Read more... )

Your brother stated so eloquently the reality for most people. Heroes are sometimes right alongside you, through most of your life, and you just need a change of perspective to see it. And good on ya for singing your heart out. Does one a lotta good, huh?

My brother can be pretty eloquent for an engineer, but he does read a lot and did study Latin in high school...

Thank you for sharing this with us, Evan. Jonathan wrote a fantastic testimonial to your grandfather, and I know you honored him equally well with your actions.

From personal experience ... it's very common to be too tired to grieve until later. And it can come and go at weird times for a long time afterwards. All perfectly OK.
