HEY, INTERNETS! Let's talk porn for a moment!

ooh! Here is a question for you! What if you were intending to fill a prompt and started writing, but before you could post, someone else filled the prompt, with a story premise that was really *very similar* to your as-yet-unfinished story (an occupational hazard with very specific prompts)? And then blindfold closes before you have a chance to post yours, anyway? But you really want to finish and post your story? Is it cool to just post it to your own LJ, complete with explanation? Or is it better not to potentially step on people's toes (even if they decide not to claim their prompt).

It may be a YMMV thing , but I think it's totally kosher to post it on your own LJ with an explanation. Especially since specific prompts are going to produce similar stories and there's no way of knowing if someone is working on something or not.

I suppose if you wanted to be safe you could wait to see if it's claimed or not? But I think most people would say more porn > less porn. I mean, y'know, it's porn.

It is!! I mean, I think especially with porn, if something works for you as a reader, you tend to be like, "YESSSSSSSSSSSS, I WANT A HUNDRED MORE STORIES EXACTLY LIKE THIS!!!" (I mean, that's not just me, right?) You're not going to be like, "Oh, what? Lapsex? I've already read a story with lapsex..."

I am FRANTICALLY TRYING to finish one last fill (which I will not claim because it is too dirty). I have a half-hour break at work. CAN I DO IT? (maybe if I stop reading LJ and write?) I have a very specific system for how I decide which blindfold prompts to fill, but I will tell you about after midnight when I am done with trying to stealthily write porn at work. Wish me luck!

I am just WEIRD about what I will and won't put my name to, partly because there are so many RL, non-fandom people on my flist, and partly just because I'm weird. I really like writing outside my normal comfort zone once in a while and I definitely use blindfold for that.

My Very Sciency System: I go through all the prompts at some point (well, I just went through the delicious this time because there was SO MUCH) and open the threads of all the ones that look like things I might like to write in tabs. And then I look through those tabs and write fills for whatever strikes my fancy as I'm looking. And once I've written a fill I close the tab. And if someone else writes a fill, I'll read it and then close the tab, since I try not to do second fills for things unless I'm already mostly done when someone else posts. What is your system?

Aha! Okay, that's fair. I use blindfold for that, too. I pretend like I'm wavering on claiming a few, but I most likely will claim them all. IDK if I want to take the time to clean them up and re-post them, though.

My system is similar, actually!! I had the main post open while prompts were still being posted and bookmarked ones that caught my interest as I went along (I have different folders: J2, SPN, JDM, threesomes and Filled). Once I've finished a fill, I move the bookmark into the "filled" folder and then do an "open all tabs" with the other folder to see what I want to do next (and move any that have been filled into the filled folder to read later).

Last time I just kept all the tabs open, but there were too many and it was stressing me out.

That totally makes sense. I wrote six this time, and I don't think that I would mind any of them being associated with me, but there's a crazy ego factor where I'm worried that maybe the fill is stupid and then I'd be embarrassed. Because I'm already out of my comfort zone to some extent, I need to work myself up to any claiming. Does that make sense at all?

No, I don't mind at all! Like I said, I'm planning on claiming it anyway, and when I'm not lazy I'll repost it to my journal, because I feel decently pleased with it. :D It's femslash--idk if you read femslash, so don't worry if you don't! This one.

I wrote two more--one which I just don't think was that great, so I might not claim that because I'm VAIN and want everyone to think I'm fabulous XD and one which I'm waffling over claiming because it feels diiirty. *blush* (I will be happy to let you know either in email if you're curious, though!) And no, that totally makes sense! It took me like, three weeks to gear up to claiming mine even under filter. (And then I deleted the post later because there was that whole Facebook connect thing and I was like HAHA NO, NONE OF THIS IS EVER GOING ON FACEBOOK. So I doubt anyone even remembers which ones are mine. XD)

OMG yes!! I'll show you mine if you show me yours! (*inser obligatory "Dirty!" here*) I think I'm getting more comfortable with the dirtiness factor. Last year was definitely an icebreaker for me. (Ahhahahaa! FAIR!!)
