Duo watched him for a minute before snickering quietly to himself.
"Alright, alright. We'll take a different approach. Say this place was packed to the brim, right? The only open seat was right there," he pointed, "across the table. So this cute girl walks in and wants to sit down. What do you do?"
"I would smile and offer her the seat... or smile and get up and offer mine. ...Kind of like I do one the subway." Matsuda replied as he tilted his head slightly to the side before looking over at Duo. "It's polite to offer up your own seat in that matter.. but usually I do it because I'm in a rush."
"Good." Duo nodded. "Better to offer your own than just the empty seat since that could be coming on a little too strong. Okay so, she smiles a cute little smile," he demonstrated as best he could, "and says that you can keep your seat, she'll just take the empty one."
Duo moved his chair around to the other side of the table and set his chin on his hand, leaning on the table.
"So there she is, drinking her coffee, typin' away on her computer, and lookin' up at you every once in a while, smilin' at you. What's your next move?"
Matsuda smiled as Duo explained the situation. He had been in this kind of situation before only he hadn't really realized anything. He had tried it a couple of times but each time he would try to make a conversation usually one of their other friends show up or even their own boyfriend or girlfriend. The police man blushed slightly before looking at him.
"Well.. I've been in these kinds of things before. I usually would do the same and right when I could go to ask them a question.. one of their friends would show up or they would get a phone call. Give me an apologitic glance sometimes they are quite sad too... and then leave." He shrugs before sighing a bit.
"Hmm . . . " Duo looked at the man thoughtfully for a few moments and then leaned back in his chair. "Well, if that's the case, then you really just need to start the conversation earlier. Don't wait so long, y'know? The tricky part is what to do when the friend shows up or the phone rings."
He leaned forward again. "If one of the friends shows up, you could take a chance and ask 'em to sit with you, but most likely they'll wanna sit with each other. But what you can do, is ask her, before they leave," Duo put on a shy little smile and started playing with the end of his braid, "if, maybe, you'll be here tomorrow? Maybe we could keep each other company?"
