As always, your writing is beautiful. I love the backstory you give to Jack and the shifting, shadowy changes of the word "good". The two of them are as complicated and intriguing as they should be.

Thank you! I was kind of playing off the rumors of Jack refusing to sail with a cargo of slaves. Pirate or not, slavery is the antithesis of what Jack values most.

Wonderful to wake to both a Sunday morning and a new fic from you. This was all kinds of excellent, from the characterizations to the content: confession and absolution lighting the darkness. Loved the touches of humor that make the scene so real, that balance the difficult revelation of that distant but still terrible encounter.

Great work.

Thank you so much! I was hoping the tone doesn't shift around too much, as it goes from sweet to funny to dark back to funny and then to the sex, so I'm glad you use the word "balance." That's what I was aiming for.

I will have you know that I am not mentally deficient, for the most part, but there seems to be a small vein of it running through me - the very one that has led me to only now discover your fic home away from home. *headslap* What a moron I am, not to have realized this sooner.

That said, I now have this entire site to make my way through during the fall and winter months - how happy does that make me? Pretty damn. And what a lovely way to begin, with this tale which elicits smiles and shock and the inevitable flash of heat. I love Jack and Elizabeth, been one who always has, and in the hands of a select few (you and hereswith and geek_mama_2) it is a pairing for the ages. Just a couple of lines I would like to repeat here, after stating the trite but truism, "if-I-listed-all-of-my-favorite-lines-I-would-just-copy-the-whole-fic".

...perhaps she was right; perhaps he was good, for surely if hell could be found on earth, then so could heaven, and she was the only heaven to which he aspired. "...I once impersonated a cleric of the Church of ( ... )

Seriously? Welcome then! I don't think there's a ton here that you haven't seen, but I'm sure there's some.

Here in the perfectly worded final lines I not only heard Jack, but the voice of John Wilmont, another libertine whose face was shockingly familiar:

Believe it or not, I have not yet seen The Libertine. Bad Johnny Depp fan, me. I really should rent that though. Perhaps a visit to Blockbuster is in order. ;-)

Thank you so much, my dear! I'm glad you enjoyed.

So very wonderful. Love that along with the intimacy you show so clearly between the two of them, he is still hesitant to share all of his truths with her. Almost get the feeling that he thinks the knowledge would somehow sully Lizzie's beauty of spirit (oh dear, afraid that's not coming out well, but will leave it in with hope that you have some idea what I mean). Beautifully done, as always.

I got what you mean, and that was what I was getting at too...he feels he bears too many stains on his soul, and is wary of sharing them with her. Thank you!
