Anyone who knows me knows this is the part of this whole ordeal that I loathe thinking about. It's not a blissful kind of ignorance by any means, but it does allow me to be functional most of the time. One of my law school colleagues is in the Air Force reserve, which seems like a pretty laid back place to do your military service if you're so inclined, so good for her. In any case, I found out yesterday that she can't even be on the listserv for the LGBT issues group (i.e. you don't have to be any of the above, just interested in legal issues ( Read more... )

I'm just going to link to a discussion of upcoming immigration bill HR 4337, which would make assisting undocumented immigrants in any way a felony, and also raise unbelieveable barriers to seeking asylum or even entry to this country.

Federal court allows transgender discrimination lawsuit to proceed.

Essentially, the court's opinion is that sex is a difficult quality to define and may not just depend on whether you're an XX or an XY, so sex discrimination laws as they already exist may apply to transpeople.

This has totally made my day.

I just happened to catch this movie on Drexel TV. It was a somewhat strange take on gender dysphoria, as understood in 1956. Written and directed by Ed Wood, who apparently was known to be a transvestite himself. Parts of the movie were simply surreal, particularly the parts meant to depict the mental anguish that transgender folks go through. ( Read more... )
