Hey, fellow young adult writers -- want to storm off righteously?  Then read this New Yorker article, in which several book reviewers read and discuss a single YA book, share their astonishment about its (presumed atypical) good qualities and ascribe its shortcomings to the genre as a whole.

Geez, if this is true I think I may have a potentially really lucrative lawsuit re: my adolescent reading material, because 70's-80's YA authors clearly did not get this memo, and abused my little brain with abandon. Explains a lot about my adult peculiarities, really.

It's interesting that ignorant reviewers at the New Yorker quote an ignorant review in the Atlantic. Let's see how far a bad idea can travel...
