While I still read my friends list, I’ve pretty much become a nonuser on Live Journal. So, time for an update I suppose. And given that I haven’t updated in months, and that I’ve actually been off doing relatively interesting things, this promises to be a monstrously long update.
As most of you probably are aware anyway from

the commute literally sucks. mine is even worse than the one you did, because i'm on the ghetto line and it only goes to newark (stupid diesel engine isn't allowed in the tunnels to NYC). so once i get there, i have to go and switch trains. uber annoying. my first week of working full time 5 years ago, i was taking the bus from my parent's house... i was asleep by 8 PM that friday! it kills me to say it, but you completely get used to the commute and don't think twice about it. with that said, i completely look forward to the day when i can say goodbye to it forever! :)
and the subway threat was completely annoying. i ended up walking from work (56th & broadway) to Penn Station, about 25 blocks on Thursday night. and both ways on Friday. The damn humidity is the worst though-- my clothes were sticking to me by the time i got to work. YUCK!
Are you going to be at the main library on 5th & 42nd this week?

The guy I'm staying with this week lives one stop over from Grant Cenral on the 7 line. So, that's like 5 minutes from the NYPL. This is going to sound totally backwards, but I'll probably spend this week at the two other places - Columbia, and the N-YHS. Since they're further away but I'll be staying much closer. Plus, my friend I'm staying with for the last two weeks goes in to the NYPL each day, so we'll traipse over there together.

*an author salon is basically an hour when an author comes in to any given space (in this case the huge room within the cafeteria--we call it the cafetorium) and talks all about their book-- why they wrote it, their story, etc. this author is one of the survivors of t he plane crash back in the Andes that was the basis for the movie, Alive. Apparently he's got an amazing voice (in his writing) and everyone is raving about his manuscript. the president of our imprint is the one that set the author salon up, so i'm not sure if i'll have to go or not.... wish me luck in getting out of it!!!
