Walking?! heck, walking 26.2 miles would take like 9 hours! I dont think I would have the commitment to walk for 9 hours. I dont know if I have ever done something straight for 9 hours. Wait... Sleep.. I can do that for 9 hours :). That is something I can really commit to!

Thanks! I was really happy to cross that finish line. It was really exciting. Whats interesting, is that you feel like you accomplished something big. Honestly, Its hard to express how happy I was. I think I need to find some more runners to hang with. Not that I like to run, but I love the "high" from after the run :)

Nice going... I was thinking about you the other day when I saw a deal on the LV marathon on TV... I need to work on my running... did some last night, but 2 miles is my max so far...

Thanks! It was really a fun time. Running on the strip was really kinda neat becuase you got an interesting perspective of the Las Vegas Blvd and seeing the hotels from the road.

If there is one tip I can give you about running, its run SLOW. Its amazing but when you start running, you want to really kick it in gear and get moving. But, if you run slow ( to the point where you can hold a conversation with a person), then you can run for a really long time. I was having a hard time with 3 miles, but after I adopted that strategy, I was able to quickly build up to 6 miles. After 6 miles, the body just gets into a groove, and it just keeps on running. Once you get the confidence to log the miles, then you can start working on your pace. Running in a marathon also gets your adrenaline flowing. Seeing all of those people is really motivating.

Sounds like a good plan... I ran last night, and was averaging about 6-7 mph. (I'd have to check my Garmin for exact numbers). I think if I slowed it down to about 4.5-5, I could probably go farther. I do feel like i want to go faster, so it might be hard to mentally slow myself down.

i'll give it a try on my next run, and see what happens!

I found that when I run with my heart rate monitor I can run much longer. I just try to keep my body in aerobic mode and not go into anerobic. I try to keep my hear rate between 160-170 bpm. If I keep it at 165, I can pretty much run a long time. Granted, at some points it feels like Im barely running faster than a fast walk, but the training books say to train for time, not distance. The distance will gradually increase.

You run with a garmin? I just bought one yesterday. Which one do you run with? I was using my Ipod Nano with the Nike thing but it wasnt accurate enough, while its great fun, I am excited to use the training stuf with the GPS. Do you use the Gamin training website too? I assume you cycle with yours as well?

Congrats on finishing! That's cool that you were able to finish under the time you set for yourself. I'm sure the next one will be better, since you now know what to expect.

LOL... Whats funny is that next year when I run it I will be in the 35-39 age group (holy cow!). This last time I was like 189 out of 449 for my age group. I would like to do better next year. Maybe 150 or so? Thing is, the older guys are faster than the younger guys it seems (based on race results).

Im trying to get Allen to run the half next year. I am going to tr for the full marathon. Its seriously a lot of fun. You should come out. We can make a guys weekend of it. It totally helps you get into shape also :) You have 1 year to prepare!

I'm already in that category! =) I'm not a big fan of running, too many things hurt when I run. Not only that, but it's also the day before my b-day.

Im not a big fan of running either ( I kinda hate it!) , but I gotta say since I started, I have lost a solid 4 lbs of fat and turned it into muscle ( I have a body fat scale). I dont know of a faster way to change body composition faster. Hell.. how many fat long distance runners do you know?

What better place to celebrate your birthday than in Las Vegas?!! ;) LOL
