One December day many years ago I drove myself to work at Peterson's College Guides, as usual. Listening to the radio, I noticed that the whole way there the station played nothing but John Lennon music. John alone, not with the Beatles. I think my initial response was just as bad. My aunt called to tell me, "John Lennon's been shot," & the very first thing I did was shoot back characteristically, "Yeah, & Paul's dead, too." She insisted it was true & I now forget if I actually believed her or not - part of me did think it was really a hoax, &, of course, part of me didn't want it to be true at all.
