I think I just got more and more interested in acting and pursuing an acting career. I have never been a very mainstream kind of person - I've always felt pretty independent in terms of what I like - whether it's music or movies or whatever. Maybe the time I spent on the hardcore scene just bolstered my belief that I should be true to myself and always try to be authentic.

Excellent!!!!! So glad you posted this Mia

I really do love knowing all this stuff. It's always fun to hear about actresses' histories and think of them as 'normal' people (in not being normal at all, really, just part of various crowds of different hides). It seems like she had a fair amount of fun!

What a baby face she has in that photo :P I love that the author calls her super cool, yeah she is! I have to say though apart from bad brains I haven't heard of one of those bands and she reels them off like it was yesterday, I really want to know what Murphy's Law sound like now though..

Thanks for posting this here, Mia. Lots of information here. Music videos?!

This is really taking me back. I think that for me, many of these bands were best experienced live. I saw the Bad Brains (and my band played with them once) and they were in my opinion one of the most technically proficient, thoughtful and interesting bands and their music transferred well to vinyl (the media of choice back in the day). At the same time, they were also very influenced by Rastafarian religious ideas (women in their place, this homophobic business about "bloodclot" faggots, etc). Yeah, they were of their time and all, and I had similar misgivings about other bands too. All of that boy energy was fascinating and a little off putting.
