Fwiw, in addition to being GOH and toastmaster at various filkcons, I have been a Fan GOH (and Filk/Music GOH) at regular sf cons. My unsolicited advice to you is to get all the "what you need to do" and "what you get from the con" stuff from the official con contact well in advance, preferably in writing. Be clear about any requirements you have, including travel accommodations. You may not get everything you ask for and, despite all precautions, things may go awry, of course.
Oh, and have fun! And mingle/schmooze with folks other than your friends!

Getting things in writing: hadn't thought of it (despite trinsf's tale of her then-partner being shafted by a fledgling con that never got their finances out of the crapper enough to meet their obligations -- that's a Whole Difurnt Kettle of Wax from arisia). Food for thought. I need to know who my liason person is, for multiple reasons.
I appreciate your sharing your wisdom.
