Someone please tell me they can remember this!

I might be going mad, but... I think this show actually used fursuiting as a plot point.

Yes, this show:

I swear I can remember an episode of Lidsville in which the main villain gets usurped by his mangy rabbit sidekick. He then borrows a page from Bugs Bunny, dresses up as an anthropomorphic female rabbit (in a truly hideous suit) and seduces ( Read more... )

You think that's weird, you should check out an episode of Phineas and Ferb called "Remains of the Platypus" sometime.

No thank you, I think I've experienced enough weirdness of late.

I just had an idea -- imagine what the results would have been if My Little Pony Friendship is Magic was a live action show, same voice actors, same level of writing, but live action, everyone in ponysuits, and done on the sort of budget* the Kroffts got? Calgary Stampede, here we come!

* -- According to what I read they got budgeted for about $50,000 per episode of their shows, sometimes less. I don't really know how good a budget that is for live-action TV.

In the 1970's, I'm sure Sid and Marty Kroft threw all the Beeest parties, maaan.

I know the SHOW existed, I was a 6 or 7 year old when it was on. As for the particular episode, I can't say.

I bet they'd never allow stuff like this on TV for kids today, would they? Heck, one character on one of their shows was a rat fursuit in a Nazi SS uniform!

I've only ever heard about that last one, but I think I saw all the others.

I remember that this stuff was regular after-school fare for about a decade on local TV stations. The Kroffts, early Japanese anime/tokusatsu (think Ultraman and such), the Three Stooges, classic Warner Bros. cartoons... man but TV was great when I was a kid.

Thanks for the link and information.

And there used to be a Krofft theme park in Georgia? Y'know, I have these VERY dim memories of seeing some of the Krofft characters 'in person'. My family took a vacation down to Disneyland in Florida when I was very young. This news makes me wonder if we stopped there on the way.

There was a theme park, according to a couple of sources- but it wasn't around for long.

It was noted for its "giant pinball game" ride.
The best description I can find was that you were put into a giant, clear ball and shot into a pinball machine styled field where the ball could actually rumble around and ricochet off obstacles like the coin op version.

There were likely costumes for live action events, but I don't know anything about those offhand.
