Brian Jacques just died

Feb 07, 2011 21:09

As stated here, Brian Jacques, author of the Redwall series, has just died.

I liked his earlier works much, much better than the later ones when it all turned into pure formula, but RIP, Mister Jacques.

Only 71? He looked older. God rest his soul (Wikipedia lists his religion as Roman Catholic).

I read the first six or so of his books in the early 90s. The cubs watched the animated series when it was on PBS, about a decade ago.

I've read a few of his books, but I don't think I ever saw the animated series. They have the whole thing on DVD at my local public library (a distinction it shares with Dark Shadows, of all things). Maybe I should look at it sometime.

The ENTIRETY of Dark Shadows? I should think that would take up an entire shelf...

And part of the shelf beneath it. It seems Barnabas Collins is still packing them in.

Oh no. :-(

I look forward to my daughter being old enough to read that series.

Thank you, Mr. Jacques. Rest well.

Oh no... his writing got me interested in high fantasy; I still cry reading Salamandastron.
(Tolkien was more like Family Mythology, since my mom was an original Tolkien geek.)

It's said that his obituary required nine column inches just to describe the buffet at his funeral.

I'm a bad man.

You certainly are! (That line ought to be read in a 'Bud Abbott' voice).

Exactly what I had in mind.

(Kids these days wouldn't get it.)

Heh, when I was growing up and watching Bud & Lou every Sunday afternoon, I never thought that just knowing who they were would remind me of my age.
