Someone showed me this truly great tribute art to Frank Frazetta, and I thought it deserved to be shared.

He was an awesome artist. Fantasy and SF book covers will never be the same.

It's really hard to think of a heroic fantasy or swords and planet book from the 60's through the mid 80's or so that didn't have a Frazetta cover, isn't it?

Yes. Boris Vallejo has done quite a few, but Frank Frazetta was the best of them all.

Conversation between my husband and I:
"Frank Franzetta died!"
"Who?"
*grab book off shelf* "Guy who drew this."
"Oh, NO! That's horrible!"

"Frank Franzetta died!"
"Who?"

That seems to have been the response from most people, sadly.

I don't know much about the man, but I know most of the folks of that generation would be kind of proud to be mourned just on the power of their work, by those who have only passing interest in the subject.

He deserves to be famous for his work, among those who know such art-- but given the way that most famous folks are these days, I'm a little GLAD he's not famous!

I have to agree with this. "Fame" seems to be an increasingly dubious honor in America.
