After you told me about "Deadliest Warrior", I caught the Jesse James vs Al Capone episode last night. Talk about padding a half-hour ep to a full hour... And the "Expert commentary" from the Re-enactors(?) sniping at each other like Pro Wrestlers working an angle was just Wrestlecrap-STUPID.

And just out of curiosity, wanna bet that the Azande were a major reason for Darkest Africa(TM)'s reputation for Bloodthirsty Cannibal Savages? Tribal warfare gets real Ugly real fast, and if they play up their savagery as a psychological weapon, the reputation can spread where you don't want it to spread -- like reinforcing the attitudes of white colonial powers.

Yes, padding is a problem with the show. Though the historical bits can be very informative (sometimes).

And the Azande influencing European attitudes about Africa? Could be. Certainly their representatives seemed very proud of their ancestors' rep as the nastiest barbarians in Central Africa.

Or for all we know, the Azande really WERE Bloodthirsty Cannibal Savages, and this is just the "spin" their descendants put on it to look good.

I've seen similar redefinitions when it comes to Raza Boys (Mexican Supremacists) puffing up their Aztec ancestors. (Whether they have any RL Aztec ancestry or not.)
