Have you ever seen "Rock & Rule"?

I've heard of it myself, but it sounds like an utterly demented movie to judge by its description on good old Tv Tropes.

To wit:In this gloriously insane animated film from our friends up in Canada, a dark magician old-arse rock star’s wicked plan to summon a demon made of cow brains are thwarted by Furries who sing early 80’s rock music about The ( Read more... )

It's available on DVD now, finally. (The music rights were tied up for a long time, as I recall, not to mention that Nelvana had changed hands a couple of times and no one was entirely sure who owned the rights to what.)

It's been a while since I watched the film, so I'm not entirely sure what the TVTropes entry is referring to, but I suspect it's referring to a scene which ends with Mok glibly deflecting one of his subordinates' questioning whether what they're about to do is good or evil with the line "Evil spelled backwards is 'live'... and we all want to do that, don't we?"

That's the scene.

Did you also think that Mok was a twisted blended animation of Iggy Pop and Mick Jagger?

I highly recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of 80's music, rollerskating, and dark future movies. Although I'm not really a fan of dark future movies I like this one.

I believe that was the intent.

I believe they describe Mok as a mixture of Mick and Iggy in the entry proper. Originally they were going to name him 'Mok Swagger', but Mick protested and so they left it out.

If I saw it I don't remember ... but I do recall The Devil and Daniel Mouse.

I also vaguely recall that one. If I ever see it on DVD I'll pay serious attention to getting a copy.

The Devil & Daniel Mouse is included as a bonus feature on the Rock & Rule DVD set, since a lot of the same people worked on both.

And that just gives me one more reason to get R&R. Thanks for the info.

Actually, the cow brain is a back-up visual element of Mok's computer.

And I think it is definitely worth seeing.

I agree, if only so I know what an extended drug trip recorded on celluloid looks like... ;)

Oh yes it's in my DVD collection. Definitely recommend it. I like to think of it as kind of a softer "Heavy Metal". Unfortunately HM overshadowed R&R so it kind of got overlooked.
