The tragedies of the "Mister Magoo Classics" cartoons.

Something I discussed with Ken Pick while we were returning from FC, was my memories of the Mister Magoo Classics cartoons from the early to mid 70's. The only ones I've got in my mind right now are the Frankenstein one, the Cyrano de Bergerac, and one based on the poem 'Gunga Din'. It was a series all its own, that may be the reason.

I also remember one episode where they had Magoo meeting Dick Tracy! Magoo was a perfect ringer for a hit man named 'Squinty', so he was brought in to infiltrate Pruneface's mob. It didn't go well...

I remember those, and yes, the were great with a great moral to them and kept to the plot of the original. I can tell you this, they will never allow them to be released on the TV ... at least those darker ones. TV is just too darn politically correct, anymore.

And don't blame Walt Disney, either because some of his flicks had some darkness to them. The loss of Bambi's Mother was one. You know, that when I saw the remastered version of Pinoccio, the part where the bad boys start getting turned to donkeys really scared me! It was frightening to see that one kid, who got Pinoccio to that island, pawing at Pinoccio in terror as he is transformed. The eeriness of the medly at the end of Fantasia where it has Lucifer presented and all the evil creatures parade and dance before him was creepy as well.

You know there is at least one furry who fetishizes that scene from Pinocchio.

I vaguely remember about five seconds of the Magoo Gunga Din.

Fetishes a scene where someone is in shear terror? He a sadist or something? X))

I do remember some of those Mr Magoo's Classics, but not all of them. They were very well done.

Does the name Kevin Duane ring any bells? Although it may just be the "Turning into a donkey" aspect.
