• pronoun used for emphasis instead of ‘what’ in questions.

• adverb 1 at all; of any kind. 2 informal no matter what happens.

I still remember the first time my son said "Whatever!" to me to indicate that he had no interest at all in what I was trying to tell him. Ha!
