there will come soft muds

Nov 21, 2009 02:51

Tonight I'd like to talk a little about MUDs, the text-only precursor to MMOs like EverQuest and World of Warcraft.

short version: go to your command line or 'run...' box and type 'telnet darkwind.org 3000' )

internet people, internet, essays, history, games, computers, reviews

I may take you up on this in the near future. We'll see. I kind of ... have a lot of writing to do that is all due very very soon and should really not be dorking around on the internet.

But it all sounds very Giant's Drink-y and I haven't touched an MU* in yeeaaars, and hm.

The game in Ender's Game is a MUD with a twist. :]

(I wonder how many kids reading it today understand that...)

Well, okay, part MUD, part civ game, and part RTS. But, the point. It still stands.

Bet you ten bucks the answer is "NOT MANY".

(Since I didn't for the longest time, even after actual experience with MU*.)

I really enjoyed this. Paragraph 11 is stunningly beautiful. I'll check out Darkwind sometime.

Because no one but me cares about MUDs anymore. :[

There is an MLA citation style for everything. There's even a blanket citation style for things that haven't been put in the style guide yet.
