Good news: Hurrah! Super Typhoon Parma has miraculously done a 180 degree about-face and is now moving away from both Taiwan and the Philippines, where it will dissipate harmlessly in the Pacific. Also, Typhoon Melor, which looked like it was going to hit Taiwan head-on, is curving east away from the coastline. Local news has returned to its ( Read more... )

I'm not going to read the Conservative Bible Project, but the idea makes me laugh pretty hard.

In reality though, I'm sad that Progressive Christians aren't more aggressive. 'Cause that's the Jesus I always liked.

It's a link to a blog post to a Conservapedia article about a website, so you can click on it and be several degrees removed the source of outrage if you're not too curious. The reason why I linked the blog post is because it's by Rod Dreber, a conservative religious blogger on popular, generally conservative Christian lifestyle site BeliefNet--and even he thinks this idea is ridiculous.

As for why progressive Christians aren't more frequently on the attack, it's because progressive Christians, by ideology, are generally not aggressive. (The meek shall inherit the earth.) It's kind of hypocritical to go to war from an ideology of peace.

Also, the Taliban are totally the kind to rape children (before killing them) because there's something about girls shouldn't die virgins?

I know this is an unpopular opinion among my liberal friends (which is most of them), but it's things like this that make me far less upset about the war in Afghanistan than I was about the war in Iraq.
