Today my Facebook mini-feed announced that user_undefined was showing this to virtualstar: Six Japanese Anime Voice Actresses to Do Punk Covers CD in Bid to Make Worst Thing Ever

proof that taste is relative:

i listened to those samples and thought they were HYSTERICALLY AMAZING and certainly more interesting from a covers perspective than most covers would ever even think of being.

i mean, it's pretty fucking awful, but that's why it's so fascinating. it's like a trainwreck. made of pastel, and glitter, and the bones of haruhi suzumiya.

Remind me to show you this sometime.

Or the sequel, whose name I forget, which has a band called Beat Crusaders screaming the Mickey Mouse March in katakana. Then slowing down to repeat the chorus in a low Reznor-esque snarl while a piano plays the song lounge style in the accompaniment. Then screaming again.

Beat Crusaders actually make decent music. They did a good number of the songs for the Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad Anime.

After listening to the album I have to say, its not as bad as the samples would lead one to believe. Ruby Soho and Call Me are actually really good covers. Blitzkrieg Bop and Basket Case aren't all that bad either.
