Funny how interpretation can change the music so much isn't it? One sounds like the end to a cheezy 80's film, and the others a timeless classic.
I rather liked Kempff's performance in the youtube video, I think the mark of a good pianist is in how beautiful the silence sounds after the last note is played.
Oh man. I totally agree. I've listened to five or six versions of the third movement tonight, and Kempff's is still by far the best on YouTube. Masterful restraint.
Though the clips of Jenö Jandó's version suggest that it might be even better, I've had trouble tracking down a complete copy.
